Women's 1st XV - Marr

Oban Lorne Ladies v Marr Ladies - Sunday 14th September 1pm
Our first home fixture this season and we welcomed Marr ladies to Glencruitten for the first time. It was a game that did not disappoint! Determined to improve on the previous weeks mistakes and high number of penalties Oban started strong with some good defensive team work and big hits from the forward pack Caitlin Fowler, Julie Campbell , turning over the ball and scoring a try quickly far out on the right wing in the speedy capable hands of our number 9 Evie Kellet who set the tone of the game, unfortunately some gaps in our defence saw Marr break the line and run home a try from half way. Some strong words and breath work from Oban captain Julie Campbell helped Oban settle back into a high standard of attack with great link play between forwards and backs saw a try from Rachel MacDonald playing 10 and then shortly
after the first of 7 yes I did say 7 for our number 13 unlucky for some but not for Poppy McKillop whose unstoppable pace wreaked havoc over the Marr defence with amazing lines and brilliant running. A small defensive error from Oban saw Marr capitalise and intercept a pass and run home a second try. Oban discussed improvements needed in defence and worked well on sorting this during the remainder of the game with big hits all over the field from forwards Allana MacKenzie and Jodi Millar , Oban settled back into some great attacking link play which saw our backs light up the pitch following strong forward carries and another try for our number 9 who demonstrated amazing pace bursting through for her second of the game. Some good team work and link play saw Oban trucking the ball up to the line again with a try for number 8 Lindsay MacMillan. Gaining momentum and confidence Oban ran home another 4 tries before the half time whistle with 3 for Poppy McKillop and 1 for Evie Kellet a pair who showed relentless determination and speed and support play running lines all over the pitch. 5 conversions well taken from Jordan MacIntyre adding to the points tally which was sitting comfortably at 55-12 at half time. The second half started and Oban attacking well saw some big forward carries and a well earned try for Jordan MacIntyre and another for our 13 who lit up the park leaving numerous defenders in her wake, score now 67-12 play then became
a little less settled for Oban with some mistakes creeping into play and a few penalties for offside and high tackles saw a team yellow card for Rachel MacDonald. Oban dug deep and managed to regain composure and discipline and with some good defensive team work and turnover ball saw a big run from Chloe Malcolm with defenders peeling off her allowed Oban to release out to the backs and in the hands of Poppy who ran in number 6 of the day. Oban back to 15 players and settling back
into strong runs saw Rebekah Palmer break the line for her first try with us well done Rebekah! A strong first performance
For Oban Lorne ladies playing at number 15 was Katie MacKorkindale who showed some real pace. Some more awesome set play saw another try and her last of the day for Poppy McKillop sitting on seven! Just before the final whistle Lindsay MacMillan managed to break through the Marr defence for the last try of the day. Final score 89 -12 Oban player of the match awarded by Marr and Oban was Lindsay MacMillan , Number 8. Oban were really delighted with the improvements made on the previous week and the positive feedback from coaches in our final team talk. A really good team performance and work rate with everyone putting in a high work rate and good attitude which was reflected in the final score. Our next game is away to Cartha next week where we will be looking to keep up the momentum with another strong performance.
