Razor FC Youth u13 - Norton League - Freshford Utd
It was a tough afternoon against a strong Freshford United side. Our team showed fantastic character to grow into the game and they put in an improved performance after the HT break.
The game got off to the worst possible start when Freshford caught us cold, netting a very early goal which was a real shock to the system.
After that early setback, the first half turned into a bit of an uphill battle. While Freshford held the edge, our lads matched them stride for stride, battling hard and winning crucial balls back in a tightly contested period. Although we found ourselves under sustained pressure for long stretches and despite being camped back, the defensive unit stood firm and handled the wave of attacks brilliantly. Rocco put in an excellent performance with some vital stops as did Thomas with a couple of crucial goal-line clearances to keep the deficit at just two goals as we came in for the half.
The second half saw arguably our better performance of the match. The boys came out with renewed focus and a more positive attitude. With this, we managed to carve out a few decent chances of our own and came so close to scoring. Freshford weren't taking it lying down though. We stuck at it and it was the determination and the developing collaboration of the team that kept us in it; constantly winning the ball back, time and time again.
Down the flanks, Luke worked tirelessly to contain their dangerous wide players, while Raffi provided great spark and energy on the right attack.
Freshford managed to stretch their lead to 3-0 by the final whistle, but the scoreline doesn't fully reflect the grit shown out there. Everyone worked extremely hard, stayed disciplined in their jobs, and the second-half display proved just how much quality this squad has. On another day, with a bit more fortune, it easily could have been a very different result.
Great effort, lads—plenty of positives to take forward!
