U12 Rosso Match vs Tekkers York U12s White (A)
The Rosso battled to a hard-fought but well-deserved 2-1 victory away at Tekkers York.
Rosso definitely started the game stronger, though neither team found many openings in the game's early exchanges. That changed ten minutes in, as a battle for the ball in the midfield ended up falling at the feet of Fletcher, whose strike was too powerful for the goalkeeper's valiant effort, with the ball going in off the post via the keeper's fingertips, making the score 1-0.
Despite remaining on top of the game, Tekkers went into the first interval drawing, as having pinched the ball in our penalty area they were able to round Rufus to make the game 1-1.
A few tactical tweaks saw Calcio's defence shored up further, and it showed as in the second quarter we conceded no chances, while high up the pitch we had the better of the game without adding to our tally, with the score staying 1-1 at half time.
Much the same can be said about the third quarter. it was perhaps the most even of the game, with both sides having half-chances with good runs in behind, but again there were no goals, leaving the game tied going into the last 20 minutes.
The game was decided with 8 minutes to go. First, Rufus made a brilliant save one-on-one, before a launched ball forward eventually found Freddie on the left wing. Showing great skill, composure, and disguise, he cut in and then took a shot from distance which the keeper could only parry out, and Marcus was the quickest to react to put Calcio up 2-1. From there, we were able to see out the game, giving the side 3 valuable points on the road.
With only 10 players today, the boys showed fantastic effort and team spirit to grind out the victory, with many players producing good performances. A shout out should go to Louis, who performed admirably despite falling ill, and Miles who played a vital role shielding the defence. Rufus bounced back bravely from his early mistake, playing a pivotal role in the winner. Hugo and Fletcher's running caused Tekkers' defence all sorts of problems, while the wide defenders will be having nightmares tonight about Freddie and Marcus. Mika and Jenson were combative in midfield, and progressed the play nicely at times, and James was as solid as ever at the back, marshalling the defensive line and driving the ball up field excellently. A solid performance all round, and onto the next one!
