Boys U16 (2010) Premier - Newbridge Utd

A game which kind of sums up our season a little bit.

For 60 minutes in total control and should have been put of sight, playing some of the best football we played this season, and 20 minutes were we lose focus, shape and intensity.

1st half of complete control, we passed well, Jamie Byrnes won every header in the 6 role, Cian Leonard was pulling the strings with deft little touches. Daniel Oke commanded the back four with authority.

The 1st came after 15 minutes. Sean Stafford ( C) worked the ball with Evan Moriarty well to release Ned Keogh down the right, Ned first cross was cleared by the defender straight back to Ned, who whipped in the cross to Jack O Brien. Jack from 12 yards slammed the ball over the keepers head.

Naas were keeping the ball really well and getting great joy down the left, with Cormac and Jack combining well, winning multiple corners.

Ciano went close with a header from a Evan corner. Evan then went close with a drive from 25 yards, following a surging run from midfield. Next up was Staff, who danced through 2 in the box, to be fouled, but the ref waved it away.

The second came after 30 minutes. Evan Moriarty won the ball high and released Jack on the right. Jack got on on the right shoulder of the centre half and unleashed a rocket into the top corner for his 23rd of the season.

Naas started the second half in much the same vein, and creating more chances. The best fell to Jack, with the pick of the bunch following a flowing move- ball was shifted from the back, Stafford played a great ball into Ned, who turned on the halfway, and pinged a great ball with the outside of his foot over the top for Jack. Jack was through and lifted the ball just over.

Newbridge pulled one back out of nothing, when we were pushed high up the pitch, Newbridge broke and scored past Alex, who was excellent tonight. Naas became passive, and Newbridge piled on the pressure. The equaliser came from a shot from the edge of the box, which took a horrible bobble in front of Alex, and bounced above him into the net.

Newbridge could have won it, another through ball,and the striker got to the ball before Alex, and lobbed the ball over him, towards the net. Daniel Oke performed a minor miracle to head the ball off the line, with a striker bearing down on him. Dan ended up in the back of the net.

Game finished 2-2 and that is a wrap.

Overall a season which promised so much, and we are all disappointed with how things panned out.
