Hazel Grove United JFC - Spurley Hey Clarets
Hazel Grove United Jets 5 – 1 Spurley Hey Clarets
Hazel Grove United Jets produced a superb all-round performance to secure an emphatic 5–1 victory over Spurley Hey Clarets. Every player gave maximum effort, and in truth, the scoreline arguably flattered the opposition—on another day, the Jets could easily have scored many more.
At the back, George Oates was composed and reliable in goal, using his distribution well to launch attacks from deep. In the second half, he moved outfield and delivered a busy, energetic performance, showcasing excellent passing, driving runs, and strong tackling.
Carter was outstanding in the first half, playing with his usual aggressive, front-footed style. His powerful runs down the wing and quality delivery into the box were a constant threat. He then stepped into goal in the second half and put in a solid shift to allow Oates to move outfield.
Lucas continued his run of consistency with another impressive display. Week after week, he is developing into a highly intelligent footballer, and his steady, reliable performances are becoming a real asset to the team.
Georgie Voss also had an excellent game, growing in confidence on the ball and producing some superb through passes. The highlight was his perfectly weighted assist for Rory, bringing the ball under control, lifting his head, and sliding a precise pass through for a clinical finish into the bottom corner.
Leading the line, Tom worked tirelessly in a difficult lone striker role. Up against two defenders for much of the game, he battled hard, showed great effort off the ball, and produced some lovely moments, including a sharp drag-back and shot in the second half. His work rate deserved a goal, and with continued development in his physical presence, he will become even more difficult to handle.
Rory marked his return from injury in style with a fantastic all-round performance. Operating in multiple positions, he showed great skill and composure, gliding past defenders with ease. His goal—a composed, clinical finish reminiscent of a Ruud Van Nistlerooy —was a highlight, and he capped off his display with a brilliant run late on, beating multiple defenders before being brought down.
Louie delivered another tireless performance, covering every blade of grass with relentless energy. He kept his play simple and effective, consistently making the right decisions and covering space intelligently. His well-taken goal capped off a brilliant display, earning him a well-deserved share of the Player of the Match award.
Finally, Ole Gunnar Johnstone produced a standout performance, combining defensive solidity with attacking impact. His hard work was rewarded with a superb hat-trick, each goal earned through determination and effort. It was a memorable display, made even more special with his full-length pitch celebration (Adebayor like Dan said 😂 )after one of his goals—a moment to remember. He rightly shared Player of the Match honours with Louie.
Dan, Dave and myself agreed this was the team’s performance of the season, combining attitude, work rate, and quality while perfectly executing everything worked on in training and what was discussed and planned before kickoff, amazing . It was a pleasure to watch.
Up the Grove! 🔴⚫️⚪️
