Boys U13 (2013) Premier - Monasterevin
The last game of the season and it was really important for the lads to finish on a high. Despite the great run to the Cup final it had been a while since a win in the league.
The lads got stuck in from the start and created a couple of great chances in the opening minutes but failed to capitalise. We were in a game though against a strong Monasterevin team who had a couple of 2013 players who normally play up with their U14 team and are really strong players. They were a constant threat from midfield and down their left wing.
Monasterevin took the was with an opportune finish went in but not before hitting both posts. Just five minutes later though Peter McBride pounced on a poor clearance from the home side, dribbled past their defender and finished into the corner.
With the game at 1-1 the half time whistle blew but Baas should have been a couple ahead. The second half continued in the same vein with Naas creating the clearer chances but not being clinical.
With seven minutes remaining Kellum Finnegan kept a ball in on the end line and cut it back to the edge of the box where Charlie O’Connor unleashed a shot that found the top corner. A cracking finish by Charlie and no more than Naas deserved.
Naas should have added another couple before the final whistle but unlike much of the season, missed chances didn’t cost us points.
Naas finished 4th in the premier division and were well in the running till Christmas. Next season we’ll need to keep the momentum going for longer to stay in touch with the likes of Kill and Kilcock. None the less the lads can be proud of a season that showed huge progress for this team. A cup final lost only to penalties and higher league position than last year is hugely positive.
The lads can take a well deserved break now before pre season preparation in July for the under 14 season starts at the end of August.
Well done lads 💪
