U15 Yellows v Palmer School of Excellence

Vs Palmer School of Excellence

A superb display from the UFCA Yellows. A 1-0 win doesn’t quite do the boys justice.

The game was completely dominated by the Yellows, both in and out of possession. The boys ran over Palmer School of Excellence in every department.

UFCA played the conditions of the pitch well mixing purposeful direct play, with combinations and balls into feet. The front three of Aaron, Ezra and Josh were a constant threat and were able to create chance after chance. Unfortunately, the final actions in front of goal didn’t quite have the quality and conviction required to convert.

Early on in the game the Yellows had two goals chalked off after being caught narrowly offside. With this, the onslaught continued leading to us hitting the crossbar twice and their keeper gathering a number of crosses into the box.

Frank Townend caught the eye, taking the ball with confidence and typical flair, hurting the opposition by releasing the ball early to set a number of attacks. While the forward players were enjoying the chances being created in the final third, the back line showed real assurance.

The defence was led by an outstanding display from Jenson Mallory, who maturely demonstrated his leadership, composure and excellent passing ability. Oscar, Harry and Taylor followed, replicating the same standards which almost completely nullified any threat from Palmer School of Excellence across the first 40 minutes.

The message at the break was more of the same from recent weeks. We discussed not taking our foot off the gas and the importance of demanding even more from each other. The lads once again didn’t disappoint and continued to show an excellent attitude particularly in defensive transition.

Naturally the Palmer School of Excellence applied some pressure on the odd occasion which was met head on by the Yellows who were able to protect the penalty area, snuffing out balls into the box and winning their aerial duels.

We felt the game should have been way out of reach for the opposing team, and were wondering if it was going to be ‘One of those days’. Around the 48 minute mark, after Billy Glover recovered the ball with a trademark crunching block challenge, Aaron Herbert’s picked up the ball and unsurprisingly proved to be the match winner. Beating a number of defenders around the edge of the box, Aaron dispatched a well earned goal prodding it past the keeper into the opposite bottom right corner.

In the final spell of the match the Yellows created a few more chances through a mixture of having the desire to recover the ball quickly and tidy passing combinations through wide and central midfield areas. Palmer School of Excellence had a late surge to find an equaliser, our back line and GK remained solid keeping a well deserved clean sheet.

A terrific display across the entire pitch. Let’s keep building on the momentum.
