U14 UFCA v YRTC
The team produced a deserved comeback after a very difficult and horrible start. The First Quarter saw us struggle to settle into the game, with sloppy passing, wrong pressing, and gaps in defence. The opposition took full advantage and scored three quick goals, leaving us 3–0 down and with plenty to improve.
In the Second Quarter, we made a few changes to the team, notably in the back and reminded the players to stay calm, keep possession, and work together. We cannot expect to rock up to a game thinking we already won it.
The response was fantastic. We started to win our battles/tackles, pass with more confidence and conviction. Two well-worked goals brought us right back into the game at 3–2.
In the Third Quarter, our confidence grew even more. The defence stayed strong and organised, the midfield began controlling the game, and the attack was full of movement. Four more goals followed, and suddenly we were 6–3 ahead.
The final Quarter showed real spirit and teamwork. The boys pressed high, passed quickly, and kept their focus right to the end. Three excellent goals sealed an incredible turnaround and a 9–3 win.
After a very tough start, the team showed great character, discipline, and effort. Big lesson to be learnt! Stronger teams will punish us and not give us the opportunity to come back.
