Match Report: UFCA Yellows 1 – 3 YRTC

The first game of the new year ended in a 3–1 defeat for UFCA Yellows. Despite the scoreline, the Yellows dominated large parts of the game across all four quarters, showcasing quality and composure throughout.

As expected, the match began at a frantic pace, with YRTC trying to impose themselves early on. UFCA stood firm and gradually settled into their rhythm. An early enforced change saw Charlie Mawson make an immediate impact in midfield with some excellent passes into the final third. Grayson Priestley was solid at centre-back, winning numerous aerial duels and producing well-timed blocks. Jenson Mallory impressed once again with superb leadership, composure, and quality on the ball. Corben Peacock delivered a physically dominant display, pressing relentlessly and holding up play. His efforts were rewarded when he assisted Ezra Clarke, who tapped in from close range on 32 minutes.

UFCA were in full control approaching half-time, our midfield three were moving the ball with quality and full backs were getting the balls into our wingers. However, against the run of play, a lapse in concentration led to a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Despite diving the right way and getting a fingertip to the ball, Rocco Gorse was unable to keep out the YRTC spot-kick.

Frustratingly, just two minutes after the restart, UFCA were caught cold and conceded again, making it 2–1 to the visitors. The Yellows responded strongly, bombarding the opposition box with line-breaking passes and neat interchanges. YRTC’s goalkeeper produced an outstanding performance in the 3rd quarter, denying multiple efforts on goal.

In between dominant spells, UFCA had to deal with direct YRTC attacks and defended several corners superbly. Unfortunately, a deflection from one set-piece allowed YRTC to extend their lead to 3–1 on 72 minutes.

Despite the setback, the Yellows remained positive and stuck to their passing style, creating a wave of late chances. Once again in the final stage, the YRTC keeper was in inspired form, pulling off two double saves to preserve the scoreline.

A frustrating result, but a great example of the Yellows staying true to the UFCA way of playing.
