Boys U16 (2010) Premier - Kilcock
Match Report: Naas AFC U16 vs Kilcock – League Away
Naas AFC U16s produced a dominant display in their latest outing, running out 6–0 winners in a performance packed with energy, creativity, and quality across the pitch.
Fast Start and a First Club Goal
Naas struck early, taking the lead after just five minutes. A well-delivered corner from James Collins caused chaos in the Kilcock box; Evan Malone rose highest and forced a save before Daniel Oke reacted quickest to bury the rebound — his first goal for the club, a great moment for the centre half.
The second arrived through excellent midfield combination play. Cian Leonard controlled possession superbly before feeding Matthew McCarthy, who lofted a perfectly weighted pass over the top. Aaron O’Donnell latched onto it and finished confidently from 12 yards.
Naas nearly added a spectacular third before the break when Aaron smashed the crossbar after smooth link-up play involving Sean Stafford, Evan Malone, and Evan Moriarty.
Strong Defence and a Key Save
Kilcock’s only real chance came late in the first half, but Alec Walsh, stepping up impressively from the U15 Premier squad, produced a superb fingertip save to push the effort over the bar.
Second Half Changes – Same Dominance
Naas made four changes at the interval, introducing Ben Harrington (6), Jack O’Brien (striker), Conor Murtagh (wing), and Charlie in goal — all of whom made instant impacts.
Five minutes into the second half, Ben Harrington broke up play brilliantly in midfield before releasing Aaron, who threaded a precise ball down the channel. Jack O’Brien showed great composure to slot home and make it 3–0.
Continued pressure led to a deserved penalty when Aaron was fouled in the box. He stepped up himself and made no mistake, calmly dispatching the spot-kick for 4–0.
(And by all accounts, Naas should have had two stonewall penalties in the first half!)
With five minutes left, Conor Murtagh finally got the goal his lively performance deserved. After two earlier chances went begging, the winger finished neatly into the corner after being slipped through by James Collins.
The final goal was another fine team effort. Good combination play on the right from Matthew and Sean released Jack O’Brien, who made it 6–0 with his second of the match.
Team Performance Summary
-
Defensive Unit: Evan, Dan, Andrew, Matthew, and Cormac were rock-solid throughout, allowing Kilcock almost nothing from open play.
-
Midfield Engine: James, Sean, and Ben dominated the centre of the pitch with control, work rate, and intelligent distribution.
-
Wide Options: Conor, Evan Malone, and Max Galvin offered width, pace, and a constant outlet on the flanks.
-
Creative Spark: Aaron and Ciano pulled the strings in the No.10 roles, creating chance after chance.
-
Attacking Threat: Jack O’Brien led the line superbly after coming on, proving a constant problem for the Kilcock back four.
Special thanks for Alec stepping up and keeping a clean sheet. Charlie came on for the second half and his distribution was excellent with out having to make a save.
A much improved performance from the Clongorey match and a step in the right direction, but still this team can get better. When they move the ball quickly they are a joy to watch.
