Calcio U8 vs Yorkshire Premier Sports U8

In the team's first ever JPL game, Calcio U8s fell to a 9-4 defeat, but nevertheless put in a great performance.

In the first third, Calcio started the brightest, and took an early lead, as a Luca ball into the middle was smartly prodded in by Theodore. However, Yorkshire Premier Sports grew into the game, and wrestled the lead back, and though Theodore scored again, Calcio were 3-2 down at the end of the third.

A slow start to the second third saw Calcio concede a few goals back-to-back. However, the team kept going and played some good football, with Will scoring and Theodore completing his hat-trick, leaving the game 7-4 going into the final third.

The final third was a much tighter affair, with the Calcio players putting in a real shift defensively, challenging superbly and making some great blocks. Martin and Ted were incredibly successful at bravely duelling with players much bigger than they, and Robin - whose reading of the game as an outfielder in the first two thirds stood out - made some unbelievable saves. Full time: 4-9.

While the result may seem disappointing, there were lots of positives to take from the game, and the players worked incredibly hard for each other. We scored four great goals, and there were moments of brilliance both on and off the ball. next week's game is against Yorkshire Ammers, and is an earlier, 9am kick off.
